Glasgow Caledonian University paramedics train at GAMH Community Hub

Paramedic science students from Glasgow Caledonian University recently completed two-week placements at the GAMH Community Hub to gain experience in community-based mental health support.

The program aimed to provide students with an understanding of mental health recovery outside of the National Health Service (NHS) framework. By participating in Hub activities and interacting with staff and members, students observed how non-clinical, community-based services utilize social connection and meaningful activity to support individuals in recovery.

Students described the Hub as a “seemingly simple but really effective and holistic approach to mental health in action,” noting its potential to be “life-changing” by providing structure and purpose for those facing mental health challenges.
