FK Jablonec defeats Glasgow Rangers to reach Conference League group stage
FK Jablonec has secured a historic advancement to the UEFA Conference League group stage after defeating Glasgow Rangers in a penalty shootout. Following a 1-0 loss in the first leg, the Czech side leveled the aggregate score in the second leg at Stadion Strelnice through a 73rd-minute goal by Vakhtang Chanturishvili.
The match proceeded to penalties, where Jan Chramosta scored the decisive kick for Jablonec, winning the shootout 4-3. The victory marks a major milestone for Jablonec, who will face opponents including Brighton, Lugano, and Trabzonspor in the league phase.
For Glasgow Rangers, the defeat marks an early exit from European competition, leaving them without continental football for the remainder of the season. Manager Derek McInnes expressed deep embarrassment over the performance, stating, “I’m mortified by this performance” and taking full responsibility for the result. The club's board is reportedly holding an emergency meeting to discuss the ongoing crisis and the future of the management following a difficult start to the season.
