Glasgow traffic cone flies to Boston as charity gift celebrating city friendship

A traffic cone decorated with the slogan “No Boston No Party” was created by Glasgow resident Andrew Dobbie and illustrated by local artist Rob Johnson. The cone, which originally appeared on the Duke of Wellington statue in Glasgow, was flown first‑class on Delta from Scotland to Boston as a symbolic gift from Scottish fans to the city.

The initiative aims to raise funds for Scottish Action for Mental Health and the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health via a contactless donation chip. The cone has already been signed by Stuart Patrick, chief executive of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, and will be signed upon arrival by Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. Governor Healey said the cone “represents genuine friendship between Massachusetts and Scotland,” while Mayor Wu praised the “joyful, warm connection” forged during the World Cup.

Organisers hope the gesture will strengthen cultural, tourism, trade and creative ties between Glasgow and Boston, turning a viral World Cup moment into a lasting transatlantic partnership.
