Glasson Lakehouse hotel closes due to norovirus outbreak

The Glasson Lakehouse, a four-star luxury hotel in County Westmeath, has voluntarily closed following an outbreak of norovirus. The gastrointestinal illness, characterized by symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea, was identified among several recent guests and staff members.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) Department of Public Health in Dublin and the Midlands has been investigating the outbreak since Monday, August 24. The hotel management implemented the closure on Wednesday afternoon as a precautionary measure to facilitate control measures and work alongside health officials.

The closure has impacted scheduled events, including at least one wedding that required relocation to an alternative venue. The hotel's online booking system currently shows no availability until September 2. Management stated they are working to assist existing guests with accommodation arrangements.
