Gölbaşı Municipality advances buckwheat project with harvest event and brand registration

The Gölbaşı Municipality held a harvest ceremony for its Karabuğday (buckwheat) Project in Ballıkpınar Mahallesi, with Mayor Yakup Odabaşı joining producers and residents. The initiative, launched by the Rural Services Directorate last year, aims to expand cultivated area to 200 dönüm by 2026 and has already spread to the Bahçelievler and Hacılar neighborhoods.

Karabuğday is promoted for its gluten‑free grain, its value for beekeeping and livestock, and as a source of higher income for local farmers. At the event the mayor announced that official applications are being filed to register the “Gölbaşı Karabuğday” brand, which will give producers a new market label and raise the district’s agricultural profile. Participants received packaged buckwheat and buckwheat‑flour mixes as part of the program’s outreach.
