Gölcük Shipyard celebrates 100th anniversary with 34 vessels under construction
A ceremony was held in Kocaeli to mark the 100th anniversary of the Gölcük Shipyard Command. During the event, Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces, announced that 34 vessels are currently being constructed for the Turkish Naval Forces across both military and civilian shipyards.
In addition to domestic projects, the shipyard is designing and constructing 23 vessels for foreign naval forces. Ongoing projects include Reis-class submarines, the 9th vessel of the Offshore Patrol Vessel Project (Pınarhisar), and the MİLDEN project.
Rear Admiral İzzet Emre Afacan noted that the shipyard has delivered a total of 512 ships and marine vehicles to the Naval Forces throughout its history. Recent efforts have focused on regaining large-tonnage combat ship construction capabilities through the Offshore Patrol Vessel Project, following losses during the 1999 earthquake.
