Gülen Berber Demir transitions from teaching to children's authorship in Austria

Gülen Berber Demir, a former teacher from Istanbul, has transitioned into a successful children's author after relocating to Vorarlberg, Austria, in 2014. Following her move for marriage, Demir navigated the challenges of adapting to a new country and language while raising three children.

Her journey into literature was inspired by her daughter's interest in books. Demir has since authored several Turkish-language children's books, including ‘Penguen Piuu Moritanya’da’, which received the Altın Kalem Ödülü (Golden Pen Award), and ‘Zeytin Ağacı Masalı’. Her work aims to strengthen the connection between the new generation growing up in Europe and their native Turkish language.
