Glen Innes man fined for threatening to release ex-wife's intimate image
A man in his early 50s has been sentenced to two community corrections orders and fined $11,000 after threatening to release an intimate image of his ex-wife. The sentencing took place at the Glen Innes Local Court on Wednesday, September 16.
Judge Karen Stafford stated that the defendant's actions were driven by a desire for revenge after being “triggered” by a scene on reality television. In addition to the threat regarding the image, the man pleaded guilty to two charges of intimidation and one count of breaching an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO). The judge noted that threatening to cut off financial support for children is recognized as a “classic act of domestic violence.”
The defendant's solicitor, Stephen Smart, argued that the client had deleted any images immediately upon seeing them and expressed regret for his actions. The pair had been separated since 2014.
