Glen Innes Severn Council to respond to proposed performance order

Glen Innes Severn Council has scheduled an extraordinary meeting to determine its response to a proposed Performance Improvement Order (PIO) from the New South Wales Government. The proposed order, issued by the Minister for Local Government, addresses ongoing issues regarding financial management, reporting, audit, and governance that have persisted since 2022.

The issues reportedly stem from the implementation of a financial management system that subsequently failed. The proposed order is directed at the council’s business operations rather than its elected members. If the council fails to comply with the order, it could face being placed into administration.

In its response, the council intends to highlight strategic progress made over the last two years, including the replacement of the failed financial system, the implementation of the Civica business platform, and the adoption of a revised Long Term Financial Plan. Mayor Margot Davis stated the meeting's purpose is for elected officials to consider the Minister’s requirements and the draft response prepared by council officers.
