Glen Powell discusses political avoidance and Paramount layoffs
In a recent Esquire cover story, actor Glen Powell addressed his decision to avoid public political discourse, stating that he believes politics "divide people" and that the current discourse is not healthy. He noted that while his mother worked for the U.S. Treasury Department during the Reagan administration, political discussions were not a staple of his upbringing.
Powell also provided insight into the box office underperformance of his film, "The Running Man". He attributed the film's struggle to significant corporate upheaval at Paramount Pictures, specifically noting that the studio "let go of an entire marketing department a month before our movie came out in the middle of a merger." The film, which had a production budget of approximately $110 million, earned roughly $69 million worldwide.
Additionally, Powell reflected on personal hardships, including a period when both of his parents faced cancer diagnoses while he was struggling financially early in his career.
