Glencore and InfraVia eye stake in Eramet lithium business in Argentina

Glencore Plc and InfraVia Capital Partners are reportedly interested in acquiring a stake in Eramet SA’s lithium operations in Argentina. The French mining company is looking to sell assets to reduce debt following increased costs in its international operations.

Negotiations are in the early stages, and no agreement has been finalized. In addition to Glencore and InfraVia, companies from Japan and the United States have reportedly been contacted regarding potential minority stakes in the extraction and refining business located at the Salar Centenario Ratones in Salta province.

Eramet’s move comes as global demand for energy storage increases the value of battery-grade metals. The company previously repurchased a 49.9% stake in the Argentine project from its Chinese partner, Tsingshan Holding Group, earlier in 2024.
