Glencore and Yancoal refuse to host local hospital petition

Mining companies Glencore and Yancoal have reportedly refused a request to allow a community petition to be hosted at their local mine sites. The petition is being organized by the Singleton Hospital Community Trust and is supported by local doctors.

With over 2,000 signatures collected so far, the petition urges the state government to fund a second surgical theatre unit and upgrades for the lower ground floor ward at Singleton District Hospital. While the companies have actively campaigned for support of their Hunter Valley Continuation Project (HVO) through local stands, they declined to provide workers with the option to sign the hospital funding petition.

Singleton District Hospital frequently receives equipment donations from mining companies via community grants, though the companies have not yet commented on their refusal to host this specific petition.
