Glendale Firefighter Andrew Jimenez Charged with Murder of Wife

A hearing was scheduled for Oct. 21 to decide whether there is sufficient evidence to try Glendale firefighter Andrew Jimenez for the murder of his wife, Mayra Jimenez. Mayra, a third‑grade teacher, was found dead on Jan. 21 inside the couple’s North Hollywood home after Jimenez requested a welfare check. Police say she suffered blunt‑force trauma, possibly from an axe, and the killing is being treated as domestic violence.

Jimenez, 45, has been held in custody since his arrest and was placed on administrative leave by the Glendale Fire Department. District Attorney Nathan Hochman called the case a “devastating reminder of the persistent scourge of intimate‑partner violence” and pledged to hold the defendant accountable.
