Glenn Close to play Herod in West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar

Award-winning actress Glenn Close has been announced to play the role of King Herod in the final week of the West End production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. Close will perform at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from January 4 to January 9, 2027.

The production, which features Sam Ryder as Jesus, is an extension of a successful run that previously played at the London Palladium. The role of Herod will be shared by several performers throughout the 12-week run at Drury Lane, including Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Michael Ball, and Sir Simon Russell Beale, among others.

Following the conclusion of the London season in early January 2027, the production is scheduled to embark on a UK tour from February to October 2027.
