Glenrothes whisky cask valued at £270,000 after 50 years

Angus Kerr, an 81-year-old pensioner from England, has discovered that a cask of Glenrothes Scotch whisky he purchased in 1971 is now valued at approximately £270,000 (315,000 euros).

Kerr originally bought the cask as an investment for £130 (150 euros), intending to sell it after five years. However, the supplier went bankrupt shortly after the purchase, leaving Kerr without proof of ownership or knowledge of the cask's location. He had long assumed the investment was lost.

The cask was rediscovered years later when a Glasgow-based company contacted him regarding storage fees. The 55-year-old whisky is believed to be the oldest Glenrothes offered at public auction, representing a 2,000-fold increase over his original purchase price.
