Gleyber Torres honors La Guaira with custom MLB footwear

Venezuelan infielder Gleyber Torres, playing for the Detroit Tigers, has unveiled custom baseball spikes designed to show solidarity with the people of La Guaira, Venezuela. The initiative is part of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Players’ Weekend, an event where players wear personalized gear with personal or cultural significance.

The custom footwear serves as a tribute to the coastal regions affected by a double seismic event on June 24. Designed by Juliana, the spikes feature detailed illustrations, including a representation of ‘Tsunami,’ a rescue dog involved in search efforts, and a human chain symbolizing international rescue support.

The design also incorporates the Venezuelan flag, the name ‘La Guaira,’ and the phrase ‘Venezuela, estamos contigo. No están solos’ (Venezuela, we are with you. You are not alone) on the front of the shoes.
