Glico Running Man sign in Osaka to undergo major renovation

Ezaki Glico has announced that the iconic sixth-generation ‘Glico Running Man’ sign in Osaka’s Dotonbori district will be decommissioned on November 30, 2026. The massive landmark, which stands 20 meters high and utilizes approximately 140,000 LED lights, will undergo a major renovation starting in December 2026.

The current display, which has been in operation since October 2014, is being replaced due to the aging of its LED infrastructure and lighting fixtures. A seventh-generation design is expected to debut in the spring of 2027. While the visual design will be updated, Ezaki Glico confirmed that the runner’s signature pose—arms raised in victory—will be preserved.

The Glico sign has been a fixture of the Dotonbori landscape since 1935. Over its 90-year history, it has evolved from neon lights to dynamic LED displays. Beyond its role as a tourist landmark, the sign has been used for public service announcements regarding health and safety.
