Gliding clubs hold seasonal flight camps in Swabian Jura

Gliding clubs in Germany recently conducted seasonal flight camps in the Swabian Jura (Schwäbische Alb) region.

The Breisgauverein für Segelflug, alongside Akaflieg Freiburg and LG Hotzenwald, held a week-long camp in Grabenstetten. Participants engaged in intensive training, with flight students utilizing aircraft from early morning until dusk. The region's landing conditions allowed inexperienced pilots to practice longer cross-country flights compared to their usual training areas in the Black Forest.

Separately, the Segelflugverein Mannheim e. V. organized a two-week camp at the Bartholomä-Amalienhof airfield. Despite initial delays due to rain, the weather eventually cleared, though high temperatures and a lack of visible cumulus clouds presented challenges for finding thermal lift. The camp required significant teamwork, as aircraft had to be moved manually rather than by vehicle.
