Gülistan Doku family urges media to stop unverified reports

The family of missing university student Gülistan Doku appealed to the public and press to avoid publishing unverified claims about the case. They denied reports suggesting that Gülistan had consented to alleged sexual abuse and stressed that such narratives distort the investigation and disrespect the victim’s memory.

The family highlighted testimony from a secret witness named "Şubat," who said Gülistan had been subjected to sexual abuse and violence, that she was taken to a hospital where records were allegedly erased, and that a second‑wave operation led to the detention of doctors, nurses and data‑processing staff. They called on journalists to adhere to ethical standards, refrain from spreading unverified information, and support the ongoing investigation by the Erzurum public prosecutor, which is linked to the broader Tuncay Sonel criminal‑organization probe.
