Gülistan Doku investigation: 28 arrested amid cover-up allegations

The investigation into the 2020 disappearance and death of university student Gülistan Doku in Tunceli is expanding following allegations of a systematic cover-up. Ali Çimen, the attorney for the Doku family, has submitted a list of 108 individuals to prosecutors, alleging they were involved in organized efforts to obstruct justice, manipulate evidence, and misdirect the investigation toward suicide.

Authorities in Tunceli and Erzurum have intensified the probe, resulting in the arrest of 28 individuals. The detainees include high-ranking officials and personnel such as former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, his son Mustafa Türkay Sonel, and his wife Handan Sonel. Other arrests involve former police officers accused of deleting SIM card data, hospital administrators accused of altering records, and various law enforcement officers, including a police chief and several officers.

Legal representatives state that the investigation gained significant momentum following changes in the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Recent developments include testimony from a secret witness, referred to as "Duman," which corroborated previous information regarding the student's location and led to the arrest of a village guard.
