Gülistan Doku investigation leads to arrest of two divers in Turkey

As part of the Gülistan Doku case, the Erzurum Chief Prosecutor's Office ordered the detention of two underwater divers who had taken part in search operations at the Uzunçayır Dam. The divers, both serving in the Elazığ Provincial Police, reported finding notes and scissors that were later identified as documents belonging to Gülistan Doku. They were charged with "evidence tampering" and arrested during the fourth wave of the investigation, which also targeted 19 other suspects including police officials and the former Tunceli governor Tuncay Sonel, who remains in custody.

The broader operation resulted in 13 of the 19 suspects being jailed, five released under judicial control, and one freed after giving a statement to prosecutors. Expert analysis questioned the physical possibility of the paper fragments remaining intact at a depth of about 14 metres for an extended period, prompting the criminal probe that culminated in the divers' arrests.
