Umut Altaş implicates Mustafa Türkay Sonel in Gülistan Doku murder

Umut Altaş, a suspect wanted by Turkish authorities, has provided a detailed testimony to the FBI in Pennsylvania regarding the 2020 disappearance of university student Gülistan Doku. The 34-page FD-302 report, prepared following a two-day interrogation, was transferred to Turkish judicial authorities through international legal assistance channels.

In his statement, Altaş claimed to be a direct witness to the murder. He alleged that Mustafa Türkay Sonel, the son of former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, shot Doku inside a BMW vehicle using a black handgun taken from the glove compartment. Altaş further stated that he assisted Sonel in moving Doku's body into the vehicle's trunk after the shooting.

The testimony includes allegations that Sonel told Altaş, ‘My father will handle this matter,’ and that the involvement of a security officer, Şükrü Eroğlu, followed the incident. Altaş also suggested that Doku's body might be buried near a new road in the Pertek area, though he noted he did not witness the burial itself. The investigation involves charges of intentional murder, qualified sexual assault, deprivation of liberty, and destruction of evidence.
