Gülistan Doku case: 108 officials sued, US extradition hearing set

Attorney Ali Çimen has filed a criminal complaint with the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor naming 108 public officials – including the provincial police chief, the gendarmerie commander and the public order director – for alleged evidence tampering, concealment and abuse of duty in the disappearance of university student Gülistan Doku. The complaint argues that the alleged actions constitute an organized effort to obstruct the investigation and requests that the officials be questioned and, if necessary, detained.

Separately, the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is holding a hearing on June 30 for Umut Altaş, a suspect previously arrested in connection with the case and placed on a Red Notice. Altaş, detained in an ICE facility in Pennsylvania, is expected to testify about the case and may be extradited to Turkey, where Justice Minister Akın Gürlek has called his return a priority. The hearing follows his recent appearance in New York, where he reportedly indicated willingness to cooperate and to reveal the location of Doku’s remains.
