Europe develops technologies to transform electronic and plastic waste into raw materials

European initiatives are advancing circular economy technologies to transform waste into valuable industrial resources. The Danish CIRCUIT project is developing methods to extract critical raw materials from electronic waste, such as old phones and computers, using advanced processes like molten salt treatment to prevent the loss of rare earth elements.

In the realm of plastics, the INCIRCULAR project, coordinated by Slovenia's TECOS, has established a demonstration ecosystem involving partners from France and Spain. This project utilizes digital twins, artificial intelligence, and hyperspectral technologies to improve the sorting and repurposing of plastic waste into high-quality secondary raw materials.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is organizing an international conference in Sarajevo titled ‘WASTE–RESOURCE for the development of the circular economy’. The event aims to discuss how responsible waste management can support industrial decarbonization, attract investment, and create jobs through the green transition.
