Gliwice hosts VII Congress of Polish Urbanism to discuss climate adaptation

The VII Congress of Polish Urbanism is taking place in Gliwice, bringing together architects, scientists, and local government officials to discuss the future of city planning. Organized by the Association of Polish Urbanists, the event focuses on how cities can adapt to climate change, economic shifts, and new housing needs. The discussions aim to conclude with the adoption of the Congress Declaration, ‘Urbanistyka na rozdrożu’ (Urbanism at a Crossroads), which will outline future directions for Polish urban development.

Parallel to these planning discussions, experts emphasize the urgent need for climate adaptation in Polish cities. Dorota Zawadzka-Stępniak, President of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), highlights that addressing heatwaves, droughts, and heavy rainfall is now a priority for public safety and quality of life. The NFOŚiGW plays a critical role in financing green-blue infrastructure and water retention projects to build urban resilience against extreme weather events.
