Gliwice man detained for baseball‑bat attack on Ukrainian

Police in Gliwice arrested a 46‑year‑old man who, while intoxicated, assaulted a 46‑year‑old Ukrainian citizen with a baseball bat during a mixed Polish‑Ukrainian gathering at a recreational garden on the evening of 20 June. The attacker had previously berated the group with nationalist slurs, was expelled, returned wearing a balaclava and wielding the bat, and injured the victim. Officers secured the weapon, identified the suspect and placed him in pre‑trial detention for three months. He faces charges of causing medium bodily harm and public insult on the basis of nationality, with a possible sentence of up to five years in prison.
