Global air passenger demand grows slightly amid travel sector shifts

Global air passenger demand saw a marginal increase of 0.2% in July 2026 compared to the previous year, according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). While total demand measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) grew slightly, international demand experienced a minor decline of 0.1%. However, excluding the Middle East, demand rose by 1.5%, with European carriers seeing a 3.1% increase and passenger traffic between Europe and Asia growing by 12.1%.

In the travel and hospitality sector, companies are increasingly turning to a hybrid operational strategy to manage peak season surges. To address rising customer support volumes, brands are integrating artificial intelligence with human agents.
