Global air traffic hits record 153,359 commercial flights in a single day

On July 23 2026, flight‑tracking service Flightradar24 recorded 153,359 commercial flights worldwide, the highest daily total it has ever documented. The figure surpasses the previous record of 137,225 flights set on July 13 2023 by more than 16,000 flights (about 12%). The count includes passenger, cargo, charter and some executive jets, but Flightradar24 notes it reflects only flights captured by its system, not every flight that operated.

The surge coincided with the peak of summer holiday travel in the Northern Hemisphere, driving intense demand across North America, Europe and Asia. Data from OAG show Atlanta’s airport leading in seat capacity, while Chicago O’Hare logged the most flights over a seven‑day span, and Dubai topped international seat availability. The record follows a dramatic rebound from the pandemic low of 23,923 commercial flights recorded in April 2020.
