Global battery markets show growth in alkaline and smartwatch segments

The global alkaline battery market, valued at over USD 8 billion in 2025, is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 4.5% through 2030. Demand is primarily driven by household and consumer electronics, such as remote controls and toys, with AA batteries holding the largest market share. North America currently leads in revenue, while the Asia-Pacific region is expected to be the fastest-growing market due to rising urbanization and electronics adoption in countries like China and India.

Separately, the smartwatch battery market is forecasted to expand significantly from USD 1.03 billion in 2025 to USD 8.68 billion by 2035, representing a CAGR of 23.86%. This growth is fueled by the increasing complexity of wearable devices, which require advanced sensors, GPS, and AI capabilities. To meet consumer demand for longer battery life, manufacturers are focusing on high energy density and improved charging efficiency. While lithium-ion batteries remain central, research into solid-state batteries and silicon-based anodes is accelerating. Notably, Samsung Electro-Mechanics reported that its ultra-small solid-state battery samples met an energy density standard of 200 Wh/L in 2025.
