Global billionaire wealth reaches record 15.1 trillion dollars

The global number of billionaires has risen by 8.2 percent to 3,795 in 2025, according to Altrata’s thirteenth Billionaire Census. Their combined wealth reached a record 15.1 trillion dollars, driven largely by companies heavily invested in artificial intelligence.

Wealth concentration at the top is increasing, with 29 super-billionaires holding over 50 billion dollars each, controlling 27 percent of all billionaire capital. In terms of investment trends, sports franchises have become a preferred trophy asset. Approximately 5 percent of billionaires, or 201 individuals, own stakes in sports teams or franchises, using them to build social and political networks.

Discussions regarding the nature of billionaire wealth highlight the distinction between net worth and liquidity. Attorney John Morgan suggests that very few individuals possess a true billion dollars in liquid cash, noting that most wealth is tied up in stocks, companies, and real estate. For example, Elon Musk has stated that his net worth is almost entirely dependent on his holdings in Tesla and SpaceX, with less than 0.1 percent in cash.
