Global Chess League Season 4 enters tight finale in Bengaluru
The group stage of the fourth season of the Global Chess League (GCL) in Bengaluru is approaching its conclusion with a highly competitive race for the top spot. After eight rounds, three teams—Alpine APL Pipers, FYERS American Gambits, and Ganges Grandmasters—are tied with 15 Match Points. The Pipers and American Gambits hold a slight advantage with 73 Game Points, while the Grandmasters follow closely with 72.
During recent play, the Ganges Grandmasters secured a 12-4 victory over the Alpine APL Pipers but later lost 13-5 to the American Gambits. The Pipers managed a win against the PBG Alaskan Knights (11-6), while the CheQ Mumba Masters kept their final qualification hopes alive by defeating the Triveni Continental Kings 14-5.
Individual highlights included Levon Aronian being named Player of the Match after defeating Anish Giri and Nihal Sarin. Other notable performances included Javokhir Sindarov defeating Ian Nepomniachtchi and Daniil Dubov outplaying Leinier Dominguez Perez.
