Global Chess League Season 4 to be held in Bengaluru

The Global Chess League (GCL) Season 4 is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from September 5 to 13 at The Lalit Ashok. The tournament features a rapid, team-based format where six franchises compete using a diverse roster of players, including Icons, Superstar Men, Superstar Women, and Prodigies. Notable participants include Magnus Carlsen, defending champion with the Alpine APL Pipers, and Viswanathan Anand, representing the PBG Alaskan Knights alongside Arjun Erigaisi.

In preparation for the league, the ‘Road to GCL’ initiative held a FIDE-rated rapid tournament at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium. More than 700 players participated in the event, which offered 80 participants the opportunity to watch the GCL Season 4 live. Seventeen-year-old Apoorv Kamble won the tournament with 8.5 points out of nine rounds, securing a share of the ₹4 lakh prize pool.
