Global cybercrime costs projected to reach $10.5 trillion in 2025
Global cybercrime and fraud are projected to reach a cost of $10.5 trillion in 2025, with estimates suggesting this figure will climb to $12.2 trillion by 2031, according to data from Cybersecurity Ventures.
A 2026 report by Accenture and the World Economic Forum highlights a shift in the cybersecurity landscape, noting that cyber risk has evolved from a technical issue into a strategic and macroeconomic concern. The report indicates that 73% of executives were victims of cyber fraud in 2025.
Artificial intelligence is identified as a primary driver of this evolution. While 77% of organizations utilize AI for cybersecurity, 87% of companies identify AI vulnerabilities as their fastest-growing risk. CEOs increasingly cite AI-driven fraud as a top concern, often surpassing ransomware in priority. Experts note that criminals are using AI-generated content, social engineering, and sophisticated impersonation to target employees and customers, effectively supercharging traditional deception methods.
