Turkey economic data shows manufacturing profit leadership

Data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) and the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye reveal a complex economic landscape for 2025. Total net sales for approximately 1.15 million companies reached 107.7 trillion TL, with a total net profit of 2.2 trillion TL. The manufacturing sector emerged as the strongest performer, leading in net profit with 873.9 billion TL and holding the largest active asset size at 33 trillion TL. In contrast, the transportation and storage sector recorded the highest net losses.

While the manufacturing sector shows strength, other indicators suggest economic pressure. Average interest rates for 1-to-3-month Turkish Lira time deposits have dropped to 37.3%, the lowest level since 2023. Conversely, credit costs are rising, with consumer loan rates increasing to 49.8%.

MÜSİAD President Burhan Özdemir suggested that 100-basis-point interest rate cuts by the end of the year would be reasonable, provided they remain rational and do not merely aim to boost consumption. Additionally, the mining sector reported strong growth, with exports increasing 19.5% to 4.7 billion dollars in the first eight months of 2025, targeting 7 billion dollars by year-end.
