Global democracy and Spanish electoral integrity face challenges

Global democratic health is facing a decline characterized by the rise of authoritarian, narcissistic, and paranoid leadership. This trend is accompanied by increasing economic imbalances, both between nations and within them, as a significant portion of global wealth concentrates in the hands of a few corporations and ultra-wealthy individuals.

Technological acceleration is reshaping labor markets and social structures, potentially requiring a redefinition of public services to maintain social peace. Furthermore, the concentration of economic and political power may hinder the ability to address global emergencies such as climate change and mass migration, while uncontrolled algorithmic tools pose risks to human stability.

In Spain, concerns are raised regarding the electoral system, specifically the unequal weight of votes across different districts. For instance, the number of votes required to secure a seat varies significantly between Barcelona, Lleida, Girona, and Tarragona. The importance of transparency, preventing fraud, and maintaining loyalty to democratic principles is emphasized to prevent the breakdown of political systems.
