Global inflation trends show mixed results across Canada, Mexico, and Argentina

Various nations are reporting divergent inflation trends for mid-2026. In Argentina, wholesale inflation for July reached 0.8%, a figure celebrated by President Javier Milei, though private estimates suggest consumer inflation for August may land between 1.4% and 2%, missing the official goal of near-zero.

Canada saw its annual inflation rate rise to 3.0% in July, driven largely by a 25.7% surge in gasoline prices. Meanwhile, Portugal reported a decrease in inflation to 3% in July, aided by stabilizing energy and food costs.

In Mexico, the annual inflation rate for the first half of August was recorded at 3.26%. This increase was primarily driven by rising costs for agricultural products, specifically onion and potato prices, as well as services related to the start of the school year. Despite this uptick, the rate remains within the Bank of Mexico’s target range.

In Argentina, public sentiment shows a slight recovery, with the Government Confidence Index rising 6.4% in August, particularly among younger demographics.
