Global efforts focus on vaccine manufacturing and disease tracking

Public health initiatives are addressing vaccine accessibility and disease monitoring in different regions. In the United States, Johns Hopkins University and various public health organizations are developing a U.S. Disease Tracker. This tool aims to provide accessible data on vaccine-preventable diseases by state, age group, and geographic area to help families monitor outbreaks. The project seeks to address health disparities, as CDC data indicates lower vaccination rates and higher hospitalization rates for certain illnesses among Black Americans.

In Nigeria, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has called for international support to establish local vaccine manufacturing. Adeyeye emphasized the need for a fill-and-finish modular plant to reduce the country's dependence on imported vaccines. Achieving local production is seen as a critical step for Nigeria to meet the World Health Organization’s Maturity Level 4 for vaccine lot release.
