Global equity ETFs face sector volatility amid strong capital inflows
Global equity ETFs are experiencing mixed performance driven by sector volatility and significant capital inflows. The Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF saw a weekly loss of 1.8 percent, closing at 166.22 euros. This decline was primarily attributed to weakness in semiconductor and AI-related hardware stocks, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region, alongside a strengthening Japanese yen.
Despite these fluctuations, the iShares MSCI World ETF and other global standard equity ETFs continue to see substantial investment. For the week ending August 17, globally oriented ETFs recorded net inflows of 1.61 billion euros. iShares specifically saw 5.07 billion euros in new capital during the week. While the iShares MSCI World ETF experienced a weekly loss of 0.9 percent due to upcoming MSCI index rebalancing at the end of August, investors appear to be maintaining long-term strategic positions in broad global diversification.
