Global EV market sees rising charging investment and record Chinese exports

The global electric vehicle (EV) market is undergoing significant shifts in infrastructure demand and logistics. A survey by BTC Power of over 200 US commercial decision-makers indicates that 94% view EV charging as essential to operations, with 97% planning to increase investment. The study suggests the market has matured, with reliability and performance now outranking cost as the primary drivers for vendor selection.

Simultaneously, the International Energy Agency reports that global EV sales are expected to reach 23 million in 2026. Chinese automakers currently supply 60% of global electric car sales, with Chinese exports reaching a record high of over 2.5 million units. This surge is creating capacity constraints in logistics. To manage the heavier weight of EVs and the specialized safety requirements for transporting lithium-ion batteries, carriers are investing in enhanced fire suppression systems and climate-controlled storage. In response to these shifts and international trade tariffs, Chinese companies like BYD are investing in their own shipping fleets and building assembly plants in high-demand regions.
