Global fashion weeks showcase regional craftsmanship and emerging designers
Recent major fashion week events in India and Russia highlighted a blend of traditional craftsmanship and international design trends.
In New Delhi, Lakmé Fashion Week in collaboration with FDCI concluded on October 18. The event featured a notable spring/summer 2027 collection by the Delhi-based label Péro, created in partnership with Barbie. The collection integrated Indian textiles such as Mashru stripes, hand-knits, and Banarasi brocade with nostalgic themes. Highlights included the use of recycled plastic wire to create miniature koodai baskets inspired by Tamil Nadu techniques.
Moscow Fashion Week, which concluded in early October, hosted over 350 brands from Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and Latin America. The event provided a platform for emerging designers to engage with global buyers and media. Featured collections included modest fashion from US brand Amirah Creations and a joint presentation by Turkish designers Gokhanyavas and Murat Aytulum, which combined Eastern influences with architectural tailoring.
