Global Food Initiative operators disappear in Osun State
Tension has risen in Osogbo, Osun State, following the disappearance of the operators of the Global Food Initiative, a scheme that offered food items at prices significantly below market rates.
Residents gathered at the organization’s office in the Odi-Olowo area on Monday after finding it closed. Many investors reported substantial financial losses. One resident, Mistura, stated she deposited N300,000 to purchase 11 bags of rice, which would have cost over N600,000 at current market prices. Another investor, Olamide, reported losing N1.2 million intended for a wedding ceremony, despite having previously received smaller quantities of goods from the scheme.
The initiative had reportedly been operating for approximately three weeks, with operators claiming the program would last for six months. Panic reportedly increased following a warning issued by a presenter on a local private radio station in Osogbo on Sunday.
