Global food prices rise amid supply concerns and inflation

Global food prices saw a slight increase in August, driven by supply concerns linked to high temperatures and weather-related risks, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

In the United States, food prices have risen significantly, with an overall increase of 34.6% since 2019. While general food inflation has slowed to 2.2% annually, specific staples remain expensive; poultry prices have risen 11.5% year-over-year, while instant coffee and ground beef have increased by 11% and 7.2%, respectively.

To combat ongoing inflation, the Federal Reserve recently raised interest rates. These rate hikes are intended to control the money supply by making borrowing more expensive, which can influence consumer spending and long-term price trends.
