Global food security requires scaling agricultural innovation

Global food security remains a critical challenge, with approximately 645 million people facing hunger in 2025 and one-third of the global population unable to afford a healthy diet. While the necessary technologies, tools, and knowledge to prevent famine largely exist, the primary obstacle is the lack of large-scale application of these innovations.

To address this, agricultural solutions must be adapted to local conditions, made affordable, and made attractive to investors. The theme for this year’s World Food Day, ‘Innovate today. Secure tomorrow’s food’, emphasizes transforming agrifood systems through four key objectives: better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life.

Technological advancements such as digital consulting services can provide farmers with weather forecasts, market price information, and tailored farm recommendations. Additionally, early warning systems and animal disease monitoring can help prevent the spread of threats, allowing for faster intervention by veterinary services and livestock breeders.
