Global football transfer spending reaches 8.5 billion euros
The global football transfer market has reached 8.5 billion euros (approximately 51 billion reais) for the 2026/27 season, approaching the previous historical record of 9.9 billion euros. The English Premier League remains the dominant force in spending, accounting for nearly one-third of all global capital with 2.77 billion euros invested by English clubs.
Chelsea FC leads European spending with an expenditure of 407.95 million euros, followed by Tottenham Hotspur at 354.7 million euros and Arsenal at 227.1 million euros. Other high-spending clubs include Real Madrid, Ipswich Town, and Manchester United. In contrast, Brazilian Serie A clubs have maintained a more conservative approach, investing 83.9 million euros, placing them 15th in the global ranking.
Major European transfer windows are set to close early next week, while the Saudi Arabian league will remain open until October 12. Brazilian clubs have an extended deadline until September 11 for both men's and women's football.
