Global gaming market expands with diverse consumer profiles
The global gaming community continues to expand, with an estimated 3.6 billion active players worldwide according to Newzoo. This growth is reflected in regional markets, such as Guatemala, which reports over 6 million players across various departments.
In Peru, the gaming market is becoming increasingly diverse. Data from Coolbox indicates that 57% of connected Peruvians play video games, with 37% playing at least four days a week. Consumer profiles are shifting from general users to specialized players who prioritize technical specifications like ergonomics, response speed, and connectivity. This has led to an omnichannel shopping approach where users research online before often visiting physical stores to test hardware.
August 29 marks World Video Game Day, a date established in 2008 to recognize the social and cultural relevance of digital gaming. The origins of the medium date back to 1958 with the creation of ‘Tennis for Two’ by physicist William Higinbotham at the Brookhaven National Laboratory.
