Iran reviews U.S. proposal to end Middle East hostilities

Iran is currently reviewing a U.S. proposal, mediated by Qatar, aimed at ending hostilities in the Middle East. Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, have expressed readiness for a diplomatic solution but have set strict conditions for any progress. These conditions include the lifting of economic sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf indicated that maritime transit in the Strait could normalize within seven days if Washington fulfills commitments outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The closure of the Strait has significantly impacted global energy markets, as it is a critical corridor for approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and natural gas trade.

Simultaneously, tensions remain high as U.S. President Donald Trump has maintained a hardline stance, threatening to annihilate the Iranian regime if negotiations fail. The U.S. is also increasing its military presence in the region, with the deployment of additional naval forces and aircraft carriers. In Gaza, the Israeli military recently conducted an operation targeting Hamas political leader Ali Ahmed al Amudi, which resulted in civilian casualties in western Gaza City.
