Global Guardian releases 2027 security risk map

The American security firm Global Guardian has released a new security risk map for 2027, categorizing regions into five levels of risk based on crime, armed conflict, terrorism, political unrest, healthcare, infrastructure, and natural disasters.

Iran has been reclassified into the highest “extreme” risk category, with specific warnings regarding the political situation and an increased risk of arbitrary detention of foreign nationals. Security assessments for countries around the Persian Gulf have also shifted; Bahrain and Kuwait have moved from moderate to high risk, while Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan are now classified as medium risk. Saudi Arabia remains in the medium risk category.

The extreme risk category primarily includes areas experiencing war, heavy crime, and political instability, such as Afghanistan, Ukraine, Syria, Yemen, the Gaza Strip, Sudan, Somalia, Myanmar, and Haiti.
