Global Guardian releases 2027 Risk Map for travel safety

The US-based security firm Global Guardian has released its ‘Risk Map 2027’, a tool designed to assess global travel safety through a five-tier color-coded system. The map evaluates various factors including political stability, terrorism, crime, infrastructure, healthcare, natural disasters, and economic security.

Significant shifts in risk levels are noted in the Middle East. Iran has been upgraded from ‘high’ to ‘extreme risk’ due to conflicts involving the US and Israel, alongside economic issues and water scarcity. Bahrain and Kuwait have moved from ‘moderate’ to ‘high’ risk, while Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia have risen to ‘medium’ risk levels. This is particularly relevant for travelers using hubs like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha.

Other notable changes include Ecuador rising to ‘high’ risk due to gang violence, and Cuba facing increased risk due to power outages. The map also distinguishes between specific cities and regions, noting that while Mexico remains a high-risk country, safety can vary significantly by state. In Turkey, risks are concentrated near the borders of Iran, Iraq, and Syria, whereas coastal areas like Antalya remain safer.
