Global health advocates call for improved patient safety and environmental health prevention
Health organizations are emphasizing the importance of preventative care and environmental monitoring to improve public health outcomes. In the context of World Patient Safety Day, Roche Ecuador highlighted the risks associated with chronic diseases like lupus, noting that up to half of adults with the condition may develop renal damage. The World Health Organization estimates that one in ten patients suffers harm during healthcare, much of which is preventable through better diagnosis, medication management, and coordination.
Simultaneously, the National Association of Environmental Sanitation Companies (Anecpla) is calling for environmental health to be prioritized within public health frameworks. Highlighting the International Federation of Environmental Health’s theme, ‘Environmental Health: Standing with Science to Protect Communities’, Anecpla argues that addressing risks in water, air, and food is essential for preventing health threats before they require hospital intervention, especially amidst climate change and ecosystem transformations.
