Global health concerns rise as Ebola and West Nile virus outbreaks expand

Health authorities are monitoring significant viral outbreaks in Africa and Europe. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Ebola virus outbreak is escalating, with World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warning that the current situation could surpass the deadliest outbreaks on record. Recent data indicates 4,449 confirmed cases and 2,061 deaths across 53 health zones.

Simultaneously, Greece is reporting a notable increase in West Nile virus infections. The National Public Health Organization (EODY) has recorded 110 total cases this year, including 45 new infections last week. Nine deaths have been reported, primarily among individuals over the age of 65. Authorities in Athens have increased insect spraying operations by 30 percent to combat the mosquito-borne virus, which has caused serious neurological complications in 81 of the recorded cases.
